ABOUT US
Ivan Furtado grew up on his family ranch in Brazil, close to the Argentinean border, and started riding when he was around 4 years of age. He never had plans to be a jockey but was always interested in training, even in those early days back home when he helped his grandfather to look after his quarter horses, and his keen interest grew as he got older.After university, he came to the UK with the main aim of improving his English, but was lucky enough to get a job with Jim Old, one of the top National Hunt trainers back then. Jim was really old school and taught him such a lot about the game in five enjoyable years.
He then spent two years as assistant trainer to Roger Charlton, where he had the chance to work with some great horses. He rode Group 1 winner Al Kazeem in most of his work, and looked after other stable stars like Cityscape and Time Test.
After that, he spent some time working as assistant to former trainer Alan McCabe.
Working with all of these trainers exposed him to different training regimes, and very different types of horses, so it allowed him to develop his own approach to training. In 2015 he got his own licence, and started training in his own right at Wiseton, near Doncaster, where he rapidly made a name for himself sending out lots of winners.
A recent move to Eboracum Stables near Easingwold, York, will take Ivan to the next level, benefitting from the superb facilities there, and proximity to so many excellent racecourses. He would be delighted to welcome your horses for training. All ownership types are catered for, from sole owners to syndicates, and owners are assured of a warm welcome and a high level of service and collaboration.
Ivan attends all the major sales during the sales season at Goffs and Tattersalls in the UK, as well as sales in Ireland and France looking for future stars. Having only been completed in 2019 the facilities are some of the finest in the UK and were installed under the supervision and recommendations of two of our top trainers; Fergal and Sally.

FERGAL O’BRIEN
LEADING RACEHORSE TRAINER
Fergal has been involved in racing for all of his working life since leaving his beloved Ireland in 1989 to head to England in pursuit of a career in the National Hunt field.
He, along with his still friends, Richard Bevis and Richard Curran, initially learnt their trade, and with it the harsh realities of a racing yard, under the strict guidance of ‘Captain’ Tim Forster OBE and this early experience proved to be a major asset in Fergal’s own journey into horse training.
